Spring
- There are three great conferences upcoming this summer, which Berit is involved in organizing:
1) The Nobel Symposium in Chemistry for sustainability: fundamental advances, with a set of satellite events taking place May 18-23 in the Stockholm area.
2) The 3rd National Meeting of the Swedish Chemical Society (SCS2025) takes place in Västerås June 18-18. Early bird registration until Feb 5th, so be fast!
3) The 23rd European Symposium on Organic Chemistry (ESOC) will take place in Copenhagen, June 29th-July 3rd. - We welcome Jane Goh for a short project in the group!

- Berit received the EuChemS Division of Organic Chemistry Award for Service! The award will be handed out at ESOC 2025 in Copenhagen.
- Our Nature Chemistry News and Views on Waser's cool paper about cyclopropenium benziodoxoles is now out.
- Ester won the Ludwig Ramberg Thesis Award in Organic Chemistry! It is awarded every second year by the Swedish Chemical Society to draw attention to the most outstanding doctoral dissertation in organic chemistry in Sweden. Congratulations Ester!
- Our former post doc Tue Petersen is now Associate Professor at DTU Chemistry in Denmark. Congratulations Tue!

- Leonard and Berit participated in ESOC in Ghent, Belgium in July. Great conference, great networking, great weather! Leonard presented a poster and Berit participated as President Elect of the international ESOC committee.

- Erika Linde successfully presented her halftime seminar June 29, with Prof. Daniel Strand from Lund University as opponent. We're now finalizing the manuscript describing her exciting results!
- The Chemistry section developed a new outreach concept together with KRC last year, called "Zoom with a PhD student". Highschool teachers are offered to book zoom talks on various chemistry topics to stimulate the chemistry interest of their pupils, and our PhD students get a chance to practice presentation of their research to the public. - Gabbi will defend her thesis, with Prof. Boris Nachtsheim as opponent, on February 26th at 10.00. The defence will be public and digital (zoom link here). Mark your calendars!

- Berit led the Chemistry section initiative to produce hand sanitiser for the health care system during the initial phase of the corona crisis. - Marcus has been awarded the Sigrid Arrhenius scholarship, which provides one scholarship per year (46 000 SEK) to a PhD student performing outstanding research work leading to a doctoral degree at Stockholm University’s Faculty of Science. Congratulations Marcus!

- We got funding from the Wenner-Gren Foundations for a post doc scholarship to Ramani Gurubrahamam. Congratulations Ramani!
- Berit gave a lecture at Lund University on Hypervalent iodine reagents for metal-free arylations, alkynylations and vinylations.
- Viola Hobiger has finished her project in the group and moved back to Austria. We hope to have her back here soon for Master studies!
- Gergely Tolnai has now left the group after a successful post doc period, we wish him the best of luck with his independent career in Budapest!

- Berit has finished the 2nd part of 4 in the long distance sport events "En Svensk Klassiker" (A Swedish Classic): "Vätternrundan", which is a 300 km bike race around lake Vättern. The time was 9 hours and 30 min, corresponding to 31.6 km/h (including stops to repair flat tires etc).
- The group participated in the Swedish conference "Organikerdagarna" in Umeå.
- Our nitroarene synthesis by C-H functionalization of arenes is now published in Angewandte Chemie.
- The Top. Curr. Chem. book "Hypervalent Iodine Chemistry" (Ed: Thomas Wirth) is now published, including Berit's chapter on Arylations with Diaryliodonium Salts.
- The announced PhD student position is now filled, and we welcome Gabriella Kervefors to the group in September.
- Our nitroarene synthesis by C-H functionalization of arenes has been accepted for publication in Angewandte Chemie; congratulations Marcus & Piret! We had a proper celebration with an arene cake and fizzy fruits.
