Ulla and Stig Holmquist Prize and the Holmquist symposium
Uppsala, October 7-8 2025
Berit received the 2025 Ulla and Stig Holmquist Prize! Award motivation: “The 2025 Ulla and Stig Holmquist Science Prize in Organic Chemistry is awarded to Professor Berit Olofsson of Stockholm University for her ground-breaking research in organic chemistry. Olofsson has pioneered the growing field of research in which hypervalent iodine reagents are produced and used for more environmentally friendly organic chemical synthesis. Her elegant and gentle approach allows different organic molecules to be selectively linked together without the need for toxic metals as catalysts. Olofsson’s research is of the highest international standard.” See also the SU website and LinkedIn announcement. The award ceremony was held October 7 at Uppsala University's Grand Auditorium. The Holmquist symposium was held October 8 at Uppsala University, in conjunction with the award ceremony, where Berit gave the opening lecture. There were three more invited speakers: Karl Gademann, University of Zürich, Alesia Tietze, University of Gothenburg, and Martin Oestreich, Technical University Berlin. Thank you so mcuh Mate Erdelyi and Jan Streuff for organizing the event! |

The award ceremony was followed by a gala dinner at the Uppsala Castle, with about 300 people. Berit was invited to give the awardee speech - a more challenging task than to give the scientific lecture the day after! |
| Berit gave the opening lecture, and presented our most recent results on the combination of mechanochemistry with iodine(III) reagents. |

|
Berit also presented the Stockholm Declaration on Chemistry for the Future, and urged the audience to read and sign it. Here with Prof. Jan Streuff. |
